What time is Strictly Come Dancing on tonight?

Strictly Come Dancing is returning to screens tonight, Friday 23 September, with this year’s star-studded lineup in the midst of being unveiled by BBC bosses.

The show will kickstart is 20th series hosted by Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, with actors Kym Marsh and Will Mellor being the first stars confirmed to be taking part.

Alongside this, the Strictly spin-off It Takes Two will also be back on screens, hosted by Rylan Clark and former professional dancer Janette Manrara.

So, as this year’s stars don their dancing shoes to hit the ballroom and show off their skills, here’s everything you need to know about the much-anticipated new series.

Strictly Come Dancing is returning to screens tonight and will hit BBC One at 7pm with it’s pre-recorded launch show.

The glitzy launch show, which sees the celebrities discover their professional partners, was pre-recorded at Elstree on Wednesday September 7.

Strictly will then be back just 24 hours later on Saturday evening at 6:45pm – with all of the couples taking to the dancefloor twice in two weeks, before the first pair are voted off.

The show will then air live every Saturday throughout the autumn, with the final typically airing on the last Saturday before Christmas.

It’s spin-off show, It Takes Two, will also make a return following the first bumper weekend – with Rylan Clark and Janette Manrara set to return as hosts.

All of the 15 contestants have been confirmed for this year’s Strictly Come Dancing lineup, with Coronation Street star Kym Marsh and Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps actor Will Mellor the first stars unveiled during BBC Breakfast last week.

Kym revealed she’s been keen to join the show ‘for a number of years’ while Will said he’s signed up to bring some joy to his mother following his dad’s death from cancer in 2020.

Radio DJ Richie Anderson and Loose Women star Kaye Adams were revealed on Friday.

Former Sunday League footballer Richie – who went viral in 2018 when he came out as gay to his teammates at Coombs Wood F.C in an emotional documentary – said that it’s a ‘massive honour’ to be part of the show’s all-male partnership.

Kaye told her fellow Loose Women panellists of her involvement, ‘I’m absolutely terrified because I can’t dance. I could think of a million reasons not to do this.’

The fifth star was unveiled as comedian Jayde Adams was announced and she said that keeping the secret hidden had been like ‘torture’, but that she was a ‘massive fan’ of the show, joking appearing on the beloved show was her main career goal.

Paralympian Ellie Simmonds was unveiled as the show’s sixth contestant on Sunday. The athlete has a type of dwarfism called achondroplasia and is a height of 4ft, is the first with the genetic condition to appear on the show.

And as KISS FM DJ Tyler West was announced, he joked ‘I am SO gassed to be joining the Strictly family! As I started writing this I already got cramp.’

Bros star Matt Goss was then announced as the eighth contestant taking part on This Morning and said he has ‘butterflies for the first time in three decades’.

Comedian and Ted Lasso star Ellie Taylor, 38, was revealed on ITV show Lorraine as the ninth celebrity contestant for this year’s Strictly, and insisted that she has the dancing ability of a ‘newly born giraffe’.

Britain’s Got Talent singer and CBBC star Molly Rainford was the 10th star confirmed to be taking part in Strictly Come Dancing 2022.

The singer, 21, revealed she’s already sought advice from 2020 contestant HRVY, adding that despite her performing background she’s like ‘Ellie the Elephant’ when she takes to the floor.

Retired footballer and manager Tony Adams MBE, 55, was announced as the eleventh contestant a few hours later.

Tony said: ‘To say I’m excited is an understatement – the lure of the sequins and the call of the salsa has me swapping my battered old football boots for a set of Strictly soft shoes.

‘Am absolutely thrilled to be giving it my all on this year’s 20th anniversary of Strictly Come Dancing. I can’t wait to meet my partner – god help her – and start the dancing.’

The formidable centre-back’s football career spanned over 22 years, playing for both Arsenal and England.

Fleur East was confirmed as the twelfth contestant taking part after she made the announcement on Thursday during her Hits Radio Breakfast show where she said: ‘You’ll see me in the ballroom on Strictly Come Dancing!’

The singer further elaborated that it was an ‘honour’ to be asked to take part in the show and hopes to do her late father Malcolm proud.

After coming runner-up in series 11 of The X Factor, Fleur has been a regular face in the world of music and broadcasting.

Wildlife cameraman and Countryfile presenter Hamza Yassin was then announced as the 13th contestant.

Hamza is one of the presenters of BBC’s Animal Park and a guest presenter on Countryfile.

Hamza Yassin said: ‘I am absolutely over the moon to be joining Strictly 2022. Never in a million years did I think I’d be on such a cool show. I’ve been watching it for years and I can’t believe I’ll actually be there dancing live in front of the British public.

‘My dance skills are currently at the level of ‘1970’s disco vibe’ but I’m ready to work hard and will be shaking it every time I get the chance – shake it ’til you make it!’

EastEnders actor James Bye, 38, – who has played the role of Martin Fowler in the BBC show since 2014 – will also be taking part as the 14th star.

And last but not least, Helen Skelton is the final celebrity contestant confirmed for the brand new series of Strictly Come Dancing.

The TV and radio broadcaster, 39, was widely tipped to be taking part in the BBC ballroom show and her spot on the programme has now been confirmed as she completes the full celebrity line-up.

It was revealed on Saturday morning on BBC Radio 2 during Claudia Winkleman’s breakfast show that Helen – who split from husband Richie Myler earlier this year – would be appearing on the show.

Helen said: ‘I’m really excited to get stuck into a fun adventure. My family and friends have always loved the show and can’t wait for me to get started.’

An array of stars are also rumoured to be appearing on the new series, including chef Gino D’Acampo, Emmerdale star Adam Thomas, presenter Steph McGovern, Olympic champion Tom Daley and retired footballer Tony Adams.

It was also reported that rugby player Mike Tindall, who is married to Princess Anne’s daughter Zara, and the Queen’s granddaughter, Lady Louise Windsor, 18, were top of bosses’ wish list to coincide with the Platinum Jubilee earlier this year.

Fans are also hoping the series could feature another same-sex pairing, after The Great British Bake Off star John Whaite and Johannes Radebe reached the final last year.

This year’s Strictly has seen huge changes in the professional lineup, with four new dancers signing up to take part after Aljaž Škorjanec and Oti Mabuse announced they would be leaving the show earlier this year.

Four new pro dancers have joined the line-up, which means that 20 professionals in total are ready to bring their skills to the BBC show’s dancefloor later this year.

The four new world class dancers completing this year’s professional troupe are European cup winner Vito Coppola, Chinese National Champion Carlos Gu, former Under 21 British National Champion Lauren Oakley and Latin dance champion Michelle Tsiakkas.

They join the professional dancers already revealed for the upcoming series: Dianne Buswell, Nadiya Bychkova, Graziano Di Prima, Amy Dowden, Karen Hauer, Katya Jones, Neil Jones, Nikita Kuzmin, Cameron Lombard, Gorka Marquez, Luba Mushtuk, Giovanni Pernice, Jowita Przystal, Johannes Radebe, Kai Widdrington and Nancy Xu.

Not every pro dancer will be paired with a celebrity with four traditionally performing only in the professional group routines.

The new series of Strictly Come Dancing will once again be hosted by Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, who had presented the show together since 2014.

They will present a live show on Saturday, followed by a pre-recorded results show which will air on Sunday evenings.

Rylan Clark and Janette Manrara will return to host the Strictly spin-off It Takes Two, which airs weekdays on BBC Two, featuring interviews with the couples and judges, along with behind the scenes clips and fun segments.

Craig Revel Horwood, Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke will return to the judging panel for the 20th series, after Bruno Tonioli confirmed in July he had permenantly left the show.

Bruno was unable to appear on the past two series due to his filming commitments in the US and Covid restrictions, with former professional Anton joining the panel in his place last year.

Bruno told MailOnline that he had found juggling the British show and its American variant Dancing With The Stars shows too taxing, saying: ‘Well I always will miss it, it’s my family, but I mean we’ll always be friends and you never know what’s going to happen.’

This year’s Strictly Come Dancing will kick off with a special group performance to celebrate 100 years of the BBC, featuring ‘special guests and fun tributes to some of your favourite BBC shows.’

It’s also been reported that Prince Charles, 73, and Duchess of Cornwall, 74, are planning to host a live episode of Strictly at Buckingham Palace following secret discussions with BBC executives.

Camilla is said to be a ‘massive fan’ of the show and even ‘votes every week’ for her favourite dancing duo.

The royal broadcast is being lined up for either the quarter or semi-finals later this , with only a handful of aides believed to be involved in the top secret project.

The new series is expected to feature the Movie Week and Musicals Week segments, along with its annual Halloween special.

Strictly Come Dancing will also return to the iconic Blackpool Tower Ballroom this year, after being unable to film at the historic venue due to Covid restrictions.

The new series will also see the return of a full audience for the live shows, after social distancing rules limited the number of spectators able to attend filming.

EastEnders star Rose Ayling-Ellis made history when she became the show’s first ever disabled contestant to be crowned series champion with professional Giovanni Pernice in 2021.

The actress, who is deaf, earned nationwide praise when she delivered a moving silent dance for her Couples Choice, offering viewers a glimpse into her world.

Previous winners of Strictly Come Dancing include Bill Bailey, Joe McFadden, Ore Oduba, Jay McGuinness, Caroline Flack and Abbey Clancy.

Each week Strictly Come Dancing viewers vote for their favourite couple either by phone or online, and these votes are combined with the scores given by the judging panel for their performances.

The two couples with the fewest votes then go head-to-head in the dance-off, delivering a reprisal of their performance from the live show.

The judges then decide which couple they would like to save, and in the event of a tie head judge Shirley Ballas is given the casting vote.

Strictly Come Dancing returns next month on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Monty Python star Eric Idle, 79, says he’s ‘grateful to be alive’

Monty Python star Eric Idle has said he feels ‘grateful to be alive’ after surviving pancreatic cancer.

The comedian and writer, 79, revealed earlier this month that he had received a rare early diagnosis and was successfully treated for the illness.

Eric has now teamed up with Stand up to Cancer in a bid to increase awareness for cancer research and recently appeared on the U.S. version of The Masked Singer as part of the campaign.

Appearing on the series launch of the Graham Norton Show, he said: ‘I am definitely more grateful, grateful to be alive.

‘I am very fortunate and hopefully I can do a bit of good by raising money for research.’

The British icon went on to appear in The Masked Singer in America where he was disguised as a hedgehog and performed a cover of Love Me Do by The Beatles as part of the surreal TV guessing game.

He told show host Graham: ‘I thought I could raise awareness.

‘I asked Paul McCartney if I could sing Love Me Do. He said, ‘Yes, of course you can,’ then joked, ‘Do let me know me when it airs so I can be sure to miss it’.’

Earlier this month, the actor told TIME: ‘About three years ago I was incredibly lucky: I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

‘One of the most lethal forms of cancer, how on earth was that lucky? Well, because it was found incredibly early… before it had gone anywhere.’

Discussing his motivation to appear on The Masked Singer, he told Entertainment Weekly that he is on a mission to spread awareness and raise money for cancer charities.

He explained: ‘I felt this was a chance for me to come out to cancer publicly, and thank the people who saved my life, but more than that, to start raising money, so that other people who find themselves in my position can survive as well.

‘It was a big decision, you know, because you keep your personal life quiet, and I thought, this is a good thing: I can make them laugh, and now I can make them cry. There’s more money in crying. So that’s what I’m doing.

‘I’m gonna [raise awareness] in England, I’m gonna do it in America, and I’m gonna do it in Australia, I’m gonna just be the person who says, I’ll sing, [Monty Python’s] Always Look on the Bright Side of Life and give us some money.’

It was because of a friend that Eric received his diagnosis, revealing that while staying in the United States with his pal he had been urged to undergo a variety of tests to help his friend – a doctor – in his studies into preventative medicine.

He was told the diagnosis by his friend, who enlightened him that there was a good chance of removing the cancer due to the rare early diagnosis.

While emboldened with positive news surrounding his diagnosis, Eric recalled that his wife Tania, whom he’s been married to for 41 years, went out into the garden and cried when he told her.

He revealed: ‘I tell her early on that she is in no way British and that tears, and even other expressions of emotion, are quite acceptable. She can weep. She can come for a hug. Anytime, night or day.’

Next came the task of telling their children, Carey, 49, and Lily, 32.

Eric recalled: ‘My son is brave and very encouraging. He immediately offers to fly in from Australia… [Lily] has been avoiding me as if some instinct is warning her.’

The Grammy-nominated artist added that he chose not to tell friends about his diagnosis until he received the all-clear in order to spare them from worry.

Explaining how The Masked Singer changed his life, he told Entertainment Tonight: ‘The whole thing was very Zen. I really liked it. It changed my life to be honest. I had pancreatic cancer, and I have been very fortunate and lucky to survive.

‘It was caught early, I had a big operation at Cedars and they saved my life, and I hadn’t told anybody.’

After having his surgery, the comic ‘plucked up the courage to ask [his] doctor how long [he] had’ and was stunned by the response.

He recalled: ‘He said, ‘Oh at least 10 years. You’re very fit, you’re healthy, the cancer’s all gone’. And I hadn’t really counted on that.

‘So I thought, ‘Here’s my chance to do something good’. I have to come out now with my cancer [battle], tell people I’ve survived, and share that experience.’

During his appearance on the Fox show, his clues were that he had been naked in Playboy. He also said that he was part of one of the most famous groups of all time and had a cult following.

Hedgehog had performed the Beatles song Love Me Do accompanied by a college marching band. Confetti rained down on him when he finished.

‘Let me tell you Hedgehog, I dug it,’ judge Robin Thicke said.

After Hedgehog shared that he won a Tony and Grammy, judge Ken Jeong thought it might be Ringo Starr or Elton John.

Jenny McCarthy thought it might be John Cleese or Michael Palin while Nicole Scherzinger believed it could be actor Bill Nighy from Love Actually.

Yet Robin said he was a huge Monty Python fan and guessed correctly that it was Eric.

Later, Eric revealed that he wanted to sing that Beatles song because it was the first song Paul McCartney wrote.

‘So I wrote to him and asked him if I could do it,’ Eric said. ‘I have a letter back saying ”Yes, you can do the song, but would you please tell what show it is so I can make sure to avoid it”.’

Eric then performed his iconic song Always Look On The Bright Side of Life from the film The Life of Brian.

‘It was a little hot in there and actually this is John Cleese’s real body,’ Eric said of his costume.

Pancreatic cancer is one of the most lethal forms of the disease, and around 95 per cent of people who contract it die from it.

Joan Crawford, Patrick Swayze and Luciano Pavarotti all died of pancreatic cancer.

It is the sixth most common cause of cancer death in the UK – around 10,000 people are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer each year in the UK, alongside about 55,000 in the US.

It is caused by the abnormal and uncontrolled growth of cells in the pancreas – a large gland in the digestive system.

Pancreatic cancer typically does not show symptoms in the early stages, when it would be more manageable.

Sufferers tend to start developing the tell-tale signs – jaundice and abdominal pain – around stage 3 or 4, when it has likely already spread to other organs.

Eric has teamed up with Stand Up to Cancer to form the Bright Side fund, which was inspired by his experiences on the reality show.

He said: ‘We’re going to raise money specifically for research and early testing to help other people survive this thing.

‘And it was a bit of an epiphany for me and it was entirely because of The Masked Singer experience, and I’m very grateful to them for that.’

Writing on his Twitter, with a link to Stand Up To Cancer, he said: ‘I did the Masked Singer because I wanted to see if I could still do it after I had survived Pancreatic Cancer.

‘My life was saved by early screening and an op. Now I’m starting the Bright Side Fund to raise money to help save others.’

Kaye Adams says cha-cha-ciao to Strictly Come Dancing

Kaye Adams admitted it was the ‘right result’ after being named as the first contestant to leave Strictly Come Dancing following a dance-off with former Bros star Matt Goss on Sunday evening.

Both couples went through their routines again, with Kaye and her dance partner Kai Widdrington performing their Charleston to Music! Music! Music! by Dorothy Provine.

Then, Matt and his dance partner Nadiya Bychkova performed their Samba to Night Fever by the Bee Gees in a bid to impress the judges and remain in the competition.

After both couples had danced a second time, the judges delivered their verdicts, with Craig Revel Horwood chose to save Matt and Nadiya.

Craig said: ‘Well the couple for me, that I considered danced the best on the night, and the couple I would like to save is Matt and Nadiya.’

Motsi Mabuse also chose to save Matt and Nadiya, adding: ‘Well that was so close, both couples made mistakes. I feel like they were on the same level, but one couple was a little bit better for me, and I am saving Matt and Nadiya.’

Confirming the result, Anton Du Beke said: ‘Well it wasn’t a vintage dance off, and I know exactly how they feel and I’ve been in that position many times myself and I think if you had the chance you would like to go again, both of you.

With three votes to Nadiya and Matt, it meant they had won the majority vote and would be leaving the competition regardless, however Head Judge Shirley Ballas said she would have decided to save Kaye and Kai.

When asked if she agreed with the other judges, she said: ‘I didn’t, I thought due to a little better quality, I would have saved Kaye and Kai.’

Reflecting on her brief Strictly experience, Kaye admitted she had no argument with the judges’ decision to let her go.

She said: ‘It was the right result and I did make mistakes, and when it comes to that high pressured situation that’s what happens.

‘So I am delighted for Matt and Nadiya, the only person I am just sorry for is this wonderful man [Kai], who has just been so brilliant…It was a hell of a lot of fun, I said my ambition was to learn to love to dance, and actually I have seen a whole new side to myself, it’s opened a little door.

‘It’s been a wonderful experience and to spend time with such talented people who love the show so much has been a joy!’

A disappointed Kai added: ‘Well, you know, only we know how much real hard work has gone into this. There has been lots of ups and downs and we won’t go into them, but this lady is a trooper, and I know what she’s been going through in the week.

‘For this woman to come out and give the performance that she did tonight really shows the testament to her character.’

Turning tov Kaye, he said: ‘I am proud of you, I know that your girls and your other half are proud of you, but the most important thing is that you should be proud of yourself, because you are a superstar.’

Eric Idle, 79, reveals why he chose to keep his pancreatic cancer diagnosis a secret

Monty Python star Eric Idle has revealed he decided to keep his pancreatic diagnosis a secret until he knew he was going to survive.

The comedian and writer, 79, revealed earlier this month that he had received a rare early diagnosis three years ago and was successfully treated for the illness.

In a new interview with The Guardian, Eric admitted he ‘just got on with it’ when he was told his diagnosis and decided to speak out when he got the recent all-clear to give others hope.

Eric was diagnosed early after a pal who he was staying with in the United States urged him to undergo a variety of tests to help his friend – a doctor – in his studies into preventative medicine.

He was told the diagnosis by his friend, who enlightened him that there was a good chance of removing the cancer via surgery due to the rare early diagnosis.

Eric told The Guardian he didn’t feel emotional when told the news, explaining:

‘I didn’t cry till I knew I was going to live. I just got on with it. I’m British! You try not to show emotions in the face of danger.’

The comedian told his wife of 41 years Tania and his children Carey, 49, and Lily, 32, but chose not to tell friends until he received the all-clear in order to spare them from worry.

He admitted he didn’t have time to be shocked as within 10 days of his diagnosis he was in hospital undergoing surgery. After five hours on the operating table, his cancer was removed perfectly intact.

He kept the news secret for three years, undergoing bi-annual tests, and only recently learning that he had the all clear.

‘I’ve been living six months to six months on tests. I didn’t know how much longer I had. I saw my doctor recently, and that’s when I got the real shock. I asked him how long I had left, and he said: ’10 years’,’ he explained.

He also said: “Had you been two weeks later you wouldn’t have got to see the surgery; you would have been straight into chemo”, which is unpleasant and not much use at that stage.’

Eric has now teamed up with Stand up to Cancer in a bid to increase awareness for cancer research and recently appeared on the U.S. version of The Masked Singer as part of the campaign.

‘That’s why I came out about it,’ he said of his decision to reveal his diagnosis. ‘I wanted to say: “Look, I was very lucky and I survived. And so can you.” I’ve heard from so many people how much that meant to them. And that chokes me up. That makes me cry.’

He cites his old friend George Harrison as ‘a great example’ of dying with dignity. The Beatles star passed away from lung cancer aged 58 in 2001, with Eric among those at his deathbed.

He always said to me: “Well, you can have as much money as you want, you can be the most famous person in the world, but you’re still going to have to die.” … ‘It was just fabulous to see someone pass away calmly without panic, regret or bitterness.’

Demi Sims goes topless as she shows off her HUGE new back tattoo

Former The Only Way is Essex star Demi Sims flaunted her huge new back tattoo on Instagram on Sunday.

The influencer, 26, who is currently filming her new reality show House of Sims with her sisters Chloe and Frankie Sims, went topless to show off her new ink.

The blonde bombshell got a tattoo around the theme of love, with one quote reading: ‘Your heart is safe here’.

Demi went topless and wore a pair of sheer white briefs and a pair of black velvet tracksuit pants.

She showed off a golden tan and wore her long blonde locks out and over to one side, with a beanie.

In the middle of her back was a pair of two skulls kissing and script including: ‘Show me the most damaged parts of your soul and I will show you how it still shines like gold.’

She also got the word ‘Amor,’ which is Spanish for love, inked onto the top of her back.

‘I want the parts of you that you refuse to give,’ another quote on Demi’s back read.

Demi already has two giant tigers on her lower back with the words, ‘no risk, no story’.

She also has numerous hand tattoos, including the phrase ‘pretty poison’ transcribed on her hand.

Demi and her sisters Chloe, 40, and Frankie, 27, have been keeping busy in recent weeks filming their new reality TV show, House of Sims.

The trio’s contract is said to be worth £1 million.

The Sims family’s initial deal with the OFTV platform is a ‘six-figure’ sum set to rise to millions with extra add-ons and earnings, MailOnline has been told.

The new show is slated to be broadcast around the start of next year on the free viewing app.

Publicity pictures for the series features them decked out in leather outfits and look similar to some of the Kardashians’ famous shoots.

Just like that hit, this series will follow the principal family The Sims as they attempt to ‘go global’ away from Essex and on their travels in the USA.

Chloe told MailOnline: ‘I get people will want to compare this to TOWIE, but this is a different concept; this will be a fly-on-the-wall insight into our lives as a family, currently calling it House of Sims as a working title. It will be completely real, and we’re really excited to bring our viewers along on a big unfiltered adventure.

‘We’re proud to be The Sims, but being compared to the Kardashians all the time is a big compliment to us as a family. We want to see where this new show can take us and plan to go global.’

Gemma Owen exclusive: Love Island star breaks silence on life with Luca Bish

Gemma Owen has revealed her Love Island boyfriend Luca Bish is a hit with dad Michael – and confirms she’s in talks for her own TV show.

The PrettyLittleThing ambassador, 19, told MailOnline in her first interview since leaving the ITV2 villa that Luca, 23, has quickly become part of the family.

Gemma, who stuns in a new shoot to launch her first edit with PLT, teased there’s ‘something very different in the pipeline’ following weeks of speculation that TV bosses have signed her for a reality series.

Speaking to MailOnline from Seville, the Love Island runner-up, said: ‘Luca fits in quite well and he gets on with my siblings, my mum and my dad as well.

‘His family are lovely too – I get on with all of them really well and have a good relationship with his sister.

‘I have really enjoyed spending time in Brighton with them when I can and the same when he comes to Cheshire.

‘In terms of my relationship and Luca – it’s all going really well. Luckily, we’re able to spend time together so the relationship is going really well and it’s all positive.’

While their romance is proving a success outside of the villa, Gemma says she won’t be moving in with Luca anytime soon like her Love Island co-stars Tasha Ghouri, 24, and Andrew Le Page, 27, have done.

She said: ‘We don’t have any plans to move into together just yet.

‘I’m a home girl, it’s where everything is, I’m family orientated and I’m still young.

‘In the immediate future I’m happy with where I am, and the setup Luca and I have.

‘We are everywhere right now, when I’m down in London working, we spend time with each other and when we have a free weekend, he’ll join me in Cheshire and be with the horses. We’re making it work around our busy schedules.

‘We’re seeing how it goes, we’ll go on a few nice holidays – no pressure.’

Unlike plenty of Love Island stars before them, Gemma and Luca, who were runners-up to Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu, 28, and Davide Sanclimenti, 27, resisted making their relationship official in the villa.

Gemma told Luca that he needed to meet her family before they committed to each other because the opinion of her dad, former England striker Michael, and mum Louise, is very important.

The fishmonger eventually sealed the deal by spoiling Gemma with a £6,500 Cartier bracelet, garden of red roses, and a balloon display, which read: ‘Will you be my girlfriend?’

While some fans thought the romantic gesture was over the top, Gemma defends Luca’s efforts and says he had no choice but to rise to the challenge.

She said: ‘I felt for Luca because there had been such a big buildup to it because on Love Island I was very much let’s wait until we get on the outside and I feel like we did wait enough time.

‘We wanted to make sure that the relationship would work. I feel like there was a big deal made out of it.

‘He felt a bit of pressure, but you can’t fault him for the effort that he put in. He did go for it bless him. There were flowers, roses, and the setup was incredible.’

Gemma, who landed a huge six-figure deal with PrettyLittleThing after she became the first Love Island star since Molly-Mae Hague, 23, to impress CEO Umar Kamani, 34, has also been rumoured for her own TV show.

The team GB dressage champion hinted that there is a series in the works – and it could be connected to her love of horses.

She said: ‘We do have something very different in the pipeline, which I’m really excited to start working on. I can’t reveal too much.’

Before spending eight weeks on our screens this summer and amassing a massive 2.1million fan base, Gemma said that she didn’t want to be known as ‘another rich footballer’s kid.’

Gemma explained to MailOnline in March that trolls sent her ‘nasty messages’ over their beliefs she had set up swimwear brand OG Beachwear with her dad’s money.

The cruel messages haven’t stopped, with Gemma admitting she still has a long way to go before breaking the stigma.

She said: ‘I still think it’s there if I’m completely honest.

‘I am starting to gradually come away from it, which is what I was looking to do.

‘As much as I have respect for my parents and my dad – I don’t want to be known as just that. I want a life of my own.

‘Love Island was a great chance to be able to get my personality across and I did, and I was completely true to myself, and I dealt with things in there as I would the outside.’

Despite growing up with Liverpool star Michael as a father, Gemma says she’s still ‘getting used to all this’ after securing lucrative deals with multiple brands.

She experienced another pinch me moment last week, jetting to Saville to star in her first photo shoot for PrettyLittleThing, the Gemma Owen Edit.

The new 48-piece collection, which is available to buy online from 10am on Monday, ranges from £10 to £75 – and according to Gemma, there’s plenty to choose from.

Gemma said: ‘The edit is classy, elegant, and has something for everyone. I love every outfit, every piece. I’m really happy with it. This is an edit due to time constraints, but the next drop will be the collection.

‘There’s a lovely cream blazer, which I wore as a dress with cycling shorts and shot with some knee-high boots – it was incredible. I also love this olive two-piece, but everything is perfect for autumn winter.’

The star also says she’s motivated by PrettyLittleThing Creative Director Molly-Mae, who last week announced she’s expecting her first baby with her Love Island partner Tommy Fury, 23.

She added: ‘Molly-Mae is obviously a huge inspiration to many girls, with the business side of things as well she is a good role model and a lot of people including myself have respect for her.

‘It’s definitely nice to follow in her footsteps. We’ve not met yet – everything has been so busy and what with her news with the baby – it is amazing but we’re yet to have a conversation.’
