Millionaire publican Stu Laundy celebrates his 50th birthday at Arturo’s Rooftop in Woolloomooloo

Stu Laundy has celebrated his 50th birthday with a lowkey affair at Arturo’s Rooftop in Woolloomooloo, New South Wales.

The millionaire publican opted for a smart casual look with an open collar light blue shirt and black blazer.

He paired the top with jeans and a leather belt as he sipped on drinks and partied the night away with pals.

Despite his vast wealth, the publican appeared to keep the event fairly lowkey with large ’50’ golden balloons alongside silver and gold balloons at the event.

He posed with a bevvy of beauties as well as family members at the event appearing to be delighted to mark the occasion.

Beaming away, the new quinquagenarian spiked up his salt and pepper hair, and appeared clean shaven going without jewellery.

The star decorated the event with signs reading ‘welcome to Stuball’s Rooftop’ with trays of Aperol Spritz served on trays.

Stu became a household name when he won Sophie Monk’s season of The Bachelorette in 2017.

Their romance was short-lived, however, with 41-year-old Sophie confirming their split in January 2018.

‘I gave it the best shot I could and my intentions were everything I said I was looking for but unfortunately it just didn’t work out,’ she wrote.

‘Because I entered this relationship so publicly I know I owe an answer to Australia about my personal life,’ she wrote in a lengthy post.

‘I went into this experience looking to settle down and start a family. I gave it the best shot I could and my intentions were everything I said I was looking for, but unfortunately it just didn’t work out.’

The former Bardot singer added: ‘As much as I respect him we are just very different people.’

GB News sparks uproar as Samantha Markle reacts to Meghan ‘not having a father’

Samantha, 58, appeared via video link on the GB News programme where she was shown a clip from the series of Prince Harry saying: “Now [Meghan] doesn’t have a father and I shouldered that because if Meg wasn’t with me, then her dad would still be her dad.”

Host Dan raged: “What? What? Her father is recovering from a stroke literally about a three-hour drive away.

“Can you believe that [claim], ‘She doesn’t have a father?’”

The American shook her head as Dan was speaking and claimed: “No, and that was all lies too.

“To suggest they have sent a car and he refused to get in, no, he was in the hospital with a heart attack.

“He wasn’t getting text messages and for her to allegedly say, ‘Samantha must have erased his texts’, how can I do that from Florida when he’s in Mexico?”

Dan interjected to remind viewers, who “haven’t watched the horrible bore-fest” that Meghan tried to claim someone had intercepted her father’s phone.

Samantha shut down the claim and told Dan it was a “farfetched” and “really hurtful” thing to say.

Samantha explained her father has not watched the docu-series as he’s “been through too much” with his health struggles in recent years.

“Why didn’t they get on a plane and go and see my father in the hospital?” Samantha fumed.

“We have heard their stories all along, that’s what multimillion-dollar PR firms do.”

Samantha’s smearing of the series caused a stir with viewers who defended Harry and Meghan on social media.

@Tlhoks520 penned: “Samantha is a jealous half wicked sister.”

Tom Ford added: “Rolling of the eyes, very classy Samantha, Samantha is just a hungry sister living in the shadows of her famous sister. She just wants a slice of fame, glory and money. Sad woman!” (sic)

@Cocoaminnie claimed: “Samantha Markle’s own daughter thinks her mother is a waste of space and has just done interviews, like Thomas Markle, for the money. Samantha’s daughter is close to Meghan and has said her mother Samantha was never close to Meghan.”

However, Taryn Valentin said: “This woman was the first to warn us about Meghan Markle. We called her jealous, I called her vile. Today where we are? She was right. I apologise to Sam.”

Strictly star ‘didn’t watch’ series after Janette Manrara’s exit

As the Strictly Come Dancing semi-finalists prepare for the penultimate week, former Strictly contestant Peter Andre reflected on his time on the show in an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk at the Pride of Britain Awards. The pop star was the ninth celebrity to be voted off Strictly in 2015 and was partnered with Janette Manrara.

The former Strictly star was asked who he was backing in this year’s competition.

Peter admitted: “I didn’t get to watch this year but you know Janette was my number one and she’s not dancing in it.”

On whether he would love to do Strictly again, he remarked: “I’m so glad I did it but I don’t want to do it again.

“I would love to go and present or be a judge, that I would love to do.”

Janette quit the BBC show in 2021 to take on a new role as co-host of Strictly spin-off It Takes Two.

The Ballroom and Latin dancer’s husband Aljaž Škorjanec followed suit and quit Strictly a year later ahead of the 2022 series.

The Strictly Come Dancing semi-finalists will get one step closer to lifting the Glitterball Trophy on Sunday.

BBC has changed its usual Saturday night schedule to avoid clashes with England’s World Cup clash with France.

The remaining contestants will perform two routines for the judges and viewers.

Strictly fans will find out on Monday night which couples have made it through to the Grand Final.

Fleur East and Vito Coppola will perform a Charleston to Tu Vuo Fa L’Americano’ by Fiorello and a Paso Doble to The Time Is Now by Moloko.

Meanwhile, Will Mellor and Nancy Xu will take to the floor with a Couple’s Choice and a Paso Doble.

Helen Skelton and Gorka Márquez will hope to sail through to the final with their Argentine Tango to Here Comes the Rain Again by Eurythmics and a Waltz to Only One Road by Celine Dion.

Countryfile cameraman Hamza Yassin and Jowita Przystal will perform a Charleston and a Waltz on Sunday.

Molly Ranford and Carlos Gu complete the line-up with a Paso Doble and an American Smooth.

Elsewhere, Kym Marsh became the tenth celebrity to be eliminated in the quarter-final.

She lost out to Molly in the dance-off although Anton Du Beke did opt to save the Coronation Street star.

Of her experience, Kym said: “Honestly I’ve loved every single second that I’ve been here. I never thought I’d get to this stage, in a million years.

“I have to say, it’s all down to this man [Graziano] here, he is just wonderful and he will be my friend forever.

“But what a journey it’s been, this show is just wonderful, it shows you things about yourself you don’t know, it shows you how tough you can be.

“Everybody, the crew, the celebs, the pros, costume, make up, everyone is amazing. I’ve had the best time, so thank you.”

Strictly Come Dancing continues on BBC One on Sunday at 7.15pm.

Meghan and Harry haven’t made it clear ‘Queen personally tried to make her feel welcome’

Iain remarked: “One thing that probably doesn’t come through in this is how the Queen tried to make them make her welcome in the Royal Family.

“I had Gyles Brandreth on my show last night, he’s written this new book about the Queen.

“And he went into quite a lot of detail about what she personally did to try and make Megan feel welcome.

“Yet we’re given the impression, I think through what they’ve been saying that that there was nothing like that at the beginning at all and right from the start, she felt a complete outsider.”

Jacqui noted: “What she says is she didn’t really feel she got training to be able to deal with it.”

Interrupting, Iain asked: “Well, what was her husband doing? Seriously?”

Kate interjected: “Immediately I was thinking if Diana was there you’d think the the mum would come in [and help].

“He said, ‘Oh, I didn’t think about the woman’s side of it, how they’re going to be criticised for what they wear because that’s one thing I’d never had.’

“You think, ‘Gosh, how sad that Diana wasn’t there because she would have done that so well.’”

Jacqui added: “I do think the front [page] of the Mirror is right though. I think there will be quite a lot of people who may have watched it or haven’t watched it, but if they have watched it they’ll have seen that this couple, they’re a bit angsty, but they’re also living in rather splendid [surroundings].”

Broadcaster Iain went on to discuss the Royal Family’s relationship with the media.

“This is part of being in the Royal Family, it goes with the job, dealing with the media,” he said.

“They’ll be some journalists that he didn’t get on with but he and Prince William cultivated Tom Bradbury of ITN, that’s how Tom is a fantastic journalist doesn’t fit the tabloid mould at all.

“Anybody in the public eye has journalists they are friends with or deal with and journalists that they don’t like to deal with.

“That’s just part of being in the public eye. I completely understand where he’s coming from in the fact that how the press treated his mother and he didn’t want that to happen to his wife.

“I’ve got a lot of sympathy with him on that front.”

Iain admitted he hadn’t watched the Netflix series yet and wasn’t rushing to do so.

In the Netflix series, Meghan opened up on her first meeting with the Queen.

“There wasn’t like some big moment of, now you’re going to meet my grandmother,” Meghan said. “I didn’t know I was going to meet her until moments before.

“We were in the car and we were going to Royal Lodge (in Windsor) for lunch, and he’s like, ‘Oh, my grandmother’s here, we’re going to meet her after church’.

“And I remember we were in the car driving up and he’s like, ‘You know how to curtsy, right?’ And I just thought it was a joke.”

Emmerdale’s Cathy Hope set for tragedy as ITV boss teases show history

During Thursday night’s instalment of Emmerdale, Cathy Hope (played by Gabrielle Dowling) broke down in tears and stormed out after she auditioned to be in the village choir. As the villagers gathered around, Cathy took to the stage to sing, Merry Christmas Everyone. However, rather than cheering her pal on, April Windsor (Amelia Flanagan) seemed to taunt the teenager during her performance.

Before Cathy could finish the song, she stormed out of the cafe in tears.

Her dad Bob (Antony Audenshaw ) was quick to run after her to ask what was wrong.

“Cathy,” Bob shouted after his daughter. “What’s up love, you were great.”

“I wasn’t,” the teenager sobbed as Bob replied: “Yeh it was everyone was enjoying it.”

“It was rubbish they were trying not to laugh,” Cathy fired back.

“It was disgusting you just really don’t get it at all.”

Cathy’s outburst sparked concern from Bob, and in upcoming scenes, things will get worse for the youngster.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk and other press, Emmerdale producer Jane Hudson discussed Cathy’s major storyline.

“You get to an age with the young cast where you suddenly realise they’re growing up,” Jane began.

“They’ve been off-screen for a few weeks and they appear and they’re a foot taller, they’re voices are deeper and you go, ‘Oh my god, we need to start growing them up in the show’.

“Cathy, we kept her at 15 for about three years and she eventually went, ‘You do know my character is 18 now’.

“And I said, ‘Oh gosh, yeh, we need to grow you up’. So, you’ll see a really big storyline for Cathy, Bob’s daughter.

“It is really emotional and it’s her first big story really and it’s a challenging one.”

“I think a lot of the parents will connect with it,” she added.

“And it’s one I’ve never seen a soap do before, so Cathy has got a big one coming up.”

Over the past month, April confided in Cathy about her feelings for Arthur (Alfie Clarke).

Cathy told April if she was too scared to talk to Arthur, then she would put in a good word for her.

However, things took an unexpected turn when Cathy got herself involved.

And things came crashing down for April when she was rejected by Arthur.

But, will April seek revenge on her so-called pal and will she feature in Cathy’s storyline?

Loose Women’s Nadia Sawalha’s shopping guilt as star reaches out for charity

Loose Women panelist Nadia Sawalha, 58, said she’s greatly appreciative of the life she has, but the guilt of her privilege “weighs heavily on me”, especially when it comes to the grocery store. The mum-of-two has joined Action For Children’s Secret Santa campaign which allows people to make Christmas donations from as little as £5.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, Nadia shared the toll her work takes on her as she has to constantly be on the forefront of current affairs.

She said: “My homework is to listen to radio stations day in and day out and I hear heartbreaking stories and it weighs heavily on me.

“I know that I’m blessed, I have a lovely husband and children and food in the fridge whenever I want and I’m appreciative but I do carry guilt about that.”

The Loose Women star finds the burden especially heavy when she goes shopping and “just throws something into my trolley”.

She recalled one particular moment in a supermarket which struck her.

A young woman was “panicking” by the cashier, as the cauliflower she had just picked up was £2 instead of £1.

Nadia claimed the store clerk was not particularly kind to the woman, briskly telling her that it was “the old one” that was being sold for £1.

The woman, filled with apologies and nerves, quickly dashed to exchange the cauliflower and came back to finish paying for her groceries.

Nadia said: “When I got into the car where my husband was waiting and I was so upset because I had a basket full of stuff that I had just thrown in and I hadn’t thought about it.

“There was this woman embarrassed and really nervous about this cauliflower.

“I just thought ‘Bloody hell, how much is that going on for people in every single street’.”

Nadia admitted that her being a part of the Secret Santa campaign did not magically resolve her guilt or the cost of living crisis people are facing, but it is “meaningful” work she is undoubtedly proud of.

Nadia noted that she is “fully aware” that the crisis has also impacted people’s ability to donate this festive season, but explained that is exactly why the Action For Children campaign works so well.

She explained the premise: “The British public are incredibly generous so we’re asking them, just whatever they can afford, to become a Secret Santa.

“What I love about this campaign is you can donate and choose exactly where your money goes.

“For instance, £10 will give a child a healthy breakfast for a week, £15 would get a child a trip to the pantomime.

“I think this is a really lovely way to do it because the person who’s donating can have that connection.”

Nadia also gushed over the British public and their unconditional charitability.

She said: “It’s always extraordinary. There’s the other line like ‘Uh the British prefer their pets to people’ and they’re miserable.

“But my god when people are in need they step forward.”
