Matthew McConaughey refuses to let being blackmailed into sex as a teenager ‘beat him’

Matthew McConaughey has said he refused to let being blackmailed into having sex when he was 15 and drugged and molested by a man when he was 18 ‘beat him’.

The Dallas Buyers Club star, 52, previously shared the harrowing accounts in his autobiography, Greenlights, and has now detailed the conversations he had with his father that informed him that this was not how anyone should be treated.

Speaking on Amanda de Cadenet’s The Conversation: About the Men podcast, he said of his parents’ lessons on sexual intimacy and respect: ‘Well, I had been taught, been guided by my parents about respect for a woman, respect for the relationship, respect for sexual intimacy, respect for space.

‘My dad had always had this thing when he taught us the birds and the bees, he sat me down talking the birds and the bees. “You’re getting that age you kiss?” and I said, “Yes, sir.”

‘And he goes, “Well, it’s gonna go further than that one day. It’s probably gonna go to where you’re gonna get intimate and there’s gonna be the breast, and there’s gonna be below the belt.” I’m paraphrasing, and he goes, “It’s gonna happen to you as well.”‘

Recalling being taught about sexual consent, he continued: ‘And so he goes, and he’s talking to me, he says, “Son, as a male in the situation,” speaking to me about a heterosexual relationship, “If you ever feel the girl, the female, hesitate, stop.”

‘He even said this, he goes, “You may even feel them hesitate, and then after you stop, they may go, oh, no, no, come on. Don’t. Wait till next time.” And he was right, I got in certain senses where it was like, “No, no, no. OK, I’m out.” And saying, “OK, cool. I’m out.”

‘The girl went, “Oh, well, no, come on.” And I was like, “No, no, no.” He said, “Trust you’ll have another day, if it is to be.”‘

The actor was still able to have some ‘healthy sexual relations’ with girls that weren’t ‘ugly’ after the blackmailing.

He went on: ‘But I was very clear, again, that was not right, that was not cool, that was not the way it is.

‘After that, I got to have some healthy sexual relations and have girls that I liked and liked me, and we slowly got intimate and it was beautiful and clumsy, and all those things, but it wasn’t ugly like that was.’

When he was molested a few years later, he ‘didn’t connect’ the two experiences.

The actor revealed he was molested as a teenager by another man in his memoir.

Matthew wrote about the horrific incident in which he was ‘knocked unconscious’ by his male assailant when he was 18 and assaulted.

The Dallas Buyer’s Club star adds that he was ‘in the back of a van’ when the attack happened.

The Gold star hasn’t had therapy but said the people around him have helped him deal with the trauma.

Matthew vowed to himself to never let the abuse he experienced in his adolescence make him ‘afraid of relationships’ or stop him from trusting others.

He said: ‘I’m not gonna be afraid of relationships because my first experience was blackmail. Uh uh. That’s an aberration. No, no. That’s not the way it is.

‘And if I go on – and I’m not gonna let it beat me. I’m going, ‘I’m not gonna let that beat my sense of trust in people and say, ‘No, I can have a healthy relationship.’ Non-negotiable. No.’

He added: ‘Happened. Am I denying that it happened? No. I’m not denying that it happened. Ugly. Ugh.

‘I still get, even telling you this story, I get — but am I gonna carry that? I chose, non-negotiably, I’m not going to carry that, bring that baggage into the life I’m going to lead, and how I treat people and how I trust people, and how I look at circumstances and the risk I may take.’

Kat Slater (played by Jessie Wallace) was not impressed when Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) turned up in Walford on her wedding day determined to stop her from marrying Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden). However, official EastEnders spoilers reveal he’s hiding a fiancée of his own.

In next week’s episodes, Alfie opens up to Freddie Slater (Bobby Brazier) about his plan to win over Kat.

The teenager suggests impressing his auntie with a grand gesture.

Freddie helps Alfie with an extravagant flower display which leaves Kat quietly impressed.

However, his plan backfires when she learns where the flowers have come from.

Later, Alfie apologises to Kat and insists their friendship means more to him than his plan to win her back.

He invites her to the pub for a drink to prove his good intentions.

Kat agrees but as the pair enjoy spending time together they’re interrupted by a mystery woman.

Alfie tells Kat the woman isn’t his fiancée but admits he is engaged to someone else.

He offers to bring Kat to meet his real fiancée and tell her everything.

Natalie Roser risks wardrobe malfunction while shopping for First Nations art

Natalie Roser showed off her stylish sense of fashion and incredible figure on Tuesday as she donned a barely there, low-cut crop top.

The fashion model, 32, was ‘shopping’ for First Nations artwork at the Gallery of Central Australia in Yulara, Northern Territory.

She posted some snaps to Instagram with the caption, ‘Art shopping for my home,’ as she turned this way and that in a pair of skintight brown leather pants.

The blonde bombshell finished the look with white knee-high boots, a white and gold handbag, and a chunky gold necklace.

She pulled her golden locks back into a high pony and opted for a bronzed smoky eye paired with a bold red lip.

It comes after Natalie set pulses racing with a racy photoshoot during a girls’ getaway in New Caledonia recently.

The Sydney-based model posted a risqué video to Instagram of her flaunting her figure in a skimpy red and blue bikini.

The blonde beauty wasn’t afraid to get her hair wet as she posed and preened in the crystal clear water.

At one point she adjusted her top and shook her body before grabbing an overhanging tree branch to adjust her position.

She wrote next to the video she was ‘feeling it’.

Natalie is one of Australia’s most in-demand models and recently shot a campaign for Guess jeans in the United States.

Last month, she revealed intimate details of her marriage to Home and Away star Harley Bonner in a loving Instagram post.

After rumours swirled about their long-distance relationship, she confirmed she was no longer living with her husband at their Newcastle home.

She told The Daily Telegraph that Harley, 31, had moved to Thailand shortly after their wedding in February to study energy healing and meditation.

‘He is so happy. It is definitely an unconventional first year of marriage,’ she said.

The 25-year-old curvy wonder – who lost 30lbs in 2019 after hitting the gym and working with a nutritionist – was modeling for the fashion brand Shein.

She slipped into a black halter bodysuit with high heels and a Joan Collins level hat as she sat against a black-and-white background.

The beauty lost 30lbs two years ago when she was accused by Khloe Kardashian of romancing the father of True, basketball star Tristan Thompson.

The scandal changed her life and she started working out more and watching her diet.

‘Working out saved me and I wanted to let everyone know we all start somewhere. You’re beautiful at any weight, shape, or size, but you’re not alone,’ she said at the time.

Last month Woods said she wants to collaborate with her sister Jodie.

The 2model has revealed she turns to her younger sibling for fashion advice tips, and she’s up for turning their personal relationship into a professional one.

She added: ‘I feel like you could be going to a night out, you could have a date night, or a birthday party.

‘It’s really whatever you make it. It’s really about taking something simple and adding your own touch and your own accessories. The beauty of this collection is its simplicity.’

Meanwhile, the star – who loves wearing a ‘good thigh high boot’ and coasts now we’re entering autumn – insisted she is open to any current trend, and explained how the most importance thing is feeling ‘comfortable’.

She revealed: ’25 is a bittersweet age. I’m very lucky and blessed to make it here, but I’m officially not the youngest person in the room.

‘My little sister has me beat. I can rent a car now, not that it really matters. It’s cool though.’

Black Panther director Ryan Coogler nearly quit the movie business after Chadwick Boseman’s death

Black Panther director Ryan Coogler was ready to ‘walk away from the business’ entirely after the tragic death of his star and friend Chadwick Boseman, at age 43, in 2020.

‘It was at a point when I was like, “I’m walking away from this business,”‘ the 36-year-old Oscar-nominated producer admitted to EW on Monday.

‘I didn’t know if I could make another movie period, [let alone] another Black Panther movie, because it hurt a lot. I was like, “Man, how could I open myself up to feeling like this again?”‘

The South Carolina native never told Ryan nor Marvel Studios executives about his secret four-year battle with stage III colon cancer.

‘I was poring over a lot of our conversations that we had, towards what I realized was the end of his life,’ Coogler recalled.

‘I decided that it made more sense to keep going.’

The new trailer for Wakanda Forever – hitting US/UK theaters November 11 – appeared to confirm that King T’Challa’s sister Shuri (Letitia Wright) will become the new Black Panther.

‘I always carried [Chadwick] in every scene,’ the Guyanese 28-year-old told EW.

‘I always would ask, “Bro, what do you think?” and just try to keep a spiritual connection. He meant everything to me, and he’s the reason why I’m here. He picked me to be his sister, so I couldn’t have done this journey without him.’

The Oakland-born filmmaker’s two-hour and 41-minute sequel also features Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Winston Duke, Dominique Thorne, Florence Kasumba, Michaela Coel, Tenoch Huerta, Martin Freeman, and Angela Bassett.

Ryan’s original film Black Panther amassed $1.348B at the global box office in 2018, and it went on to make history as the first comic book movie to score a best picture nomination at the Academy Awards.

Chadwick’s final acting role was voicing T’Challa in Marvel’s 10-episode animated spin-off What If…? in which his character became the new Star-Lord (previously played by Chris Pratt).

On September 4, Boseman won the posthumous Creative Arts Emmy Award for outstanding character voice-over performance for his work in What If…?

George R. R. Martin’s upcoming book is boycotted by fans who accuse his co-authors of racism

The release of George R. R. Martin’s upcoming book has been met with some backlash from fans accusing his co-authors of having a ‘racist history.’

Martin, 74, wrote The Rise Of The Dragon: An Illustrated History Of The Targaryen Dynasty, Volume One, with the help of Linda Antonsson and Elio M. García Jr., who are being accused of racism for some of their past online posts.

Many fans expressed they would be boycotting the work following Antonsson and García’s remarks about casting white characters from Martin’s books with black actors.

The book — which is set to be an introduction to House Targaryen and features the main characters in HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel — is set to hit bookstores on October 25.

Martin recently advertised the new work on his social media only to be met with heated replies from fans who pleaded with him to cut ties with the couple, with one writing, ‘I will not be buying anything with Linda and Elio attached to it.’

Another one added: ‘Will not be buying this book given the co-author. Her attitudes toward diversity disgust me. Love you, George, but she is an example of what may be toxic in this fandom. (Also Steve Toussaint is one of the best parts of HotD).’

Another outraged fan wrote: ‘Your “co author” Linda is a major part of racist gatekeeping within your fandom and has pushed against @HBO’s decision to cast @StevieToussaint in #HouseOfTheDragon.’

While yet another one chimed in, writing: ‘Stop working with racists that bring hate and derision into the fandom, please.’

Both Antonsson and García Jr. — who are a married couple — have refuted the allegations.

The duo created a Game of Thrones online forum, Westeros.org in 1999.

They were recruited by George shortly after to be the fact-checkers for his book ‘A Feast for Crows.’

Fans have taken issue with a few of Antonsson’s blog posts, where she complained about actors of color who were cast as a character that was described as being white in the book.

Most recently, Antonsson reportedly opposed the casting of Steve Toussaint as Lord Corlys in HBO series House of the Dragon.

‘There are no black Valyrians and there should not be any in the show,’ she wrote.

She further argued her point in an interview with Variety, where she expressed that fans ‘cherry-picked statements stripped of context’ and that she was upset about being ‘labeled a racist, when my focus has been solely on the world building.’

‘If George had indeed made the Valyrians black instead of white, as he mused on his “Not a Blog” in 2013, and this new show proposed to make the Velaryons anything other than black, we would have had the same issue with it and would have shared the same opinion,’ she added.

Linda also stressed that she has no issue with inclusive casting, but that she believes ‘diversity should not trump story.’

In August, actor Steve Toussaint said he was the target of racist attacks after he was cast as Corlys Velaryon on the forthcoming HBO show House of the Dragon, a Game of Thrones prequel.

The British actor, 57, told The Hollywood Reporter he underestimated the response when he was cast in the first prominent role for a person of color in the Game of Thrones universe.

‘When I got the gig, I literally was like, “It’s just another role because I have Black friends who had small parts or recurring parts in’ Game of Thrones,’ Toussaint told the outlet. ‘I didn’t realize it was a bigger deal until I was racially abused on social media when it was announced. Yeah, that s*** happened.’

Touissant said that one person called him the N-word and others had made art to mock his casting on the series.

Toussaint noted that he’s heard from various colleagues in the entertainment industry who have also been the target of racist messages after being placed into high-profile roles.

Nancy Glass reveals why Jeffrey Dahmer ate his victims

One of the few journalists to interview serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer behind bars has revealed why the ‘Milwaukee Monster’ ate his victims’ bodies – and how he seemed ‘completely normal’ despite his sickening crimes and troubled childhood.

Emmy-winning producer Nancy Glass, who interviewed Dahmer in 1993 for CNN’s Inside Edition, spoke to Australian radio show Kyle and Jackie O on Wednesday about her time with the murderer, who is the subject of Netflix’s smash hit Monster.

Ms Glass revealed how she got to know ‘desperately lonely’ Dahmer’s family before she started corresponding with him, which led to her discovering why he killed 17 young men and boys – while eating some of their corpses – between 1978 and 1991.

‘He said he chose to eat them because he wanted them to be part of him,’ she explained. ‘He was so desperate, so desperately lonely, so ashamed of being gay.’

Ms Glass said Dahmer had ‘bonding issues’ stemming from the fact his mother Joyce Flint wouldn’t allow anyone to touch him after he was born, ‘except to change his diaper’.

He became obsessed with the idea of people leaving him – and in his twisted mind, he believed that eating his victims meant they would be with him forever.

When asked by radio host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson if she ever felt empathy for Dahmer during the correspondence or prison interviews, Ms Glass said ‘no’.

She always kept a professional distance from Dahmer and withheld judgement, she explained, but this was no different to how she would interview any public figure.

‘You guys interview how many people? And basically I’m the same as you. You go at it from a very professional standpoint,’ Ms Glass said.

‘When you’re you’re interviewing a politician. You’re careful, right? You don’t judge. But ask the question so that everybody listening can judge – and that was my job.’

Ms Glass also spoke of how she ‘got to know his family’ before she eventually met Dahmer in prison.

‘I was involved with the family for several years. And the father [Lionel Dahmer] never thought anything was wrong [with Jeffrey]. He never noticed it,’ she said.

After being granted permission by Dahmer’s family to write to him in prison, ‘he wrote back to me, and then we started to talk.’

‘The super scary part [was] he seemed perfectly normal. That’s terrifying,’ she added.

‘It was as odd. I mean, you can hear the way he’s talking to me is very thoughtful. He contemplated, but he’s a psychopath.

‘He says to me, “I’m sorry for what I did.” But he’s a psychopath. He doesn’t even know what those words mean.’

Ms Glass also reveled that Dahmer’s mother – who died in the year 2000 – was taking a cocktail of 17 prescription medications when she was pregnant with her son, which may have contributed to his twisted mental state.

She said both of Dahmer’s parents, who divorced when he was 18, were ‘very very odd’ when he was beaten to death in prison in November 1994 at age 34.

His father Lionel was particularly upset by his son’s early death because he wanted Dahmer ‘to convert people to Christianity in prison, and [he] didn’t get the chance’.

Dahmer, who was sentenced to 16 life imprisonment terms for his crimes, would write to Ms Glass from prison about God.

He apparently contemplated whether he would go to heaven despite his sickening crimes, and prayed for death every day behind bars.

‘I did ask him are you gonna go to heaven or hell? And he said, “Well, that’s a good question,’ Ms Glass told Kyle and Jackie O.

‘He wanted to die. He stayed up all night and he slept all day because he couldn’t do his passions.

‘So he really wanted to die. And he aggravated every other inmate until somebody [fellow inmate Christopher Scarver] finally killed him.’

Ms Glass went on to explain that Dahmer’s first kill ‘was an accident’ but he then wanted to ‘make zombies’ so killed others in a premeditated fashion.

‘He injected drugs into people. He drilled holes in some and poured acid into everything he could, because he wanted to create a zombie,’ she said of his modus operandi.

Nancy’s interview comes as Netflix’s Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story has broken streaming records.

Created by Ryan Murphy, the show has become Netflix’s ninth most popular English-language TV series of all time, in the span of just two weeks.

Monster has been viewed for 496.1 million hours thus far, with at least 56 million households who have watched all 10 episodes of the series according to Variety.

The streamer measures the popularity of their shows by counting hours viewed in the first 28 days, meaning the show still has 16 days to gain an even higher spot on the chart.

Starring Evan Peters as the serial killer known as the Milwaukee Cannibal, the show has held the number one spot on the English-language TV chart since its release, and is also the second most watched English-language series in a week ever, only beat out by season 4 of Stranger Things.

It retells the story of Dahmer from the perspective of his victims, and explores major mistakes Wisconsin police made in handling the probe of the notorious mass murderer, who made national headlines for acts of cannibalism and necrophilia.

The show features at least 10 incidents in which authorities nearly took Dahmer into custody, but didn’t, extending the twisted crime spree.
