Blake Shelton pulled out all the stops to win over Bodie after he got all four chairs to turn as the blind auditions continued on Monday’s episode of The Voice on NBC.
The 29-year-old father of three from Ladera Ranch, California, hoped that at least one of the coaches would turn for him and was shocked when all four did after he performed The Fray song You Found Me.
Blake, 46, was so determined to sign Bodie to his team that he jumped out of his chair when John Legend, 43, also turned around.
‘What is the matter with you?,’ Blake yelled. ‘Stop pushing your button when I push my button!’
John laughed it off as Blake’s wife Gwen Stefani, 53, then turned her chair around and Blake put his head in his hands.
Camila Cabello, 25, hovered her hand over her button and Blake told her to just do it.
‘I loved how you sounded,’ Camila said. ‘Blake is having a really bad run this season.’
‘I’m a desperate man,’ Blake said. ‘Man, listen your voice is incredible…You have what it takes to make it to the finale of The Voice. You’ve just got to pick the right coach that can get you there. I’ve been doing this a long time.’
Gwen told Bodie that she wanted to be his coach.
‘This is my time in my life to give back to somebody like you that has a dream,’ Gwen said. ‘I’m ready to do it.’
‘I’m going to say it one more time, I want you on my team,’ Blake said. ‘Let’s win this show together, Bodie! Come on! Please!’
‘I’m going to go with Abuelo Blake,’ Bodie said.
Blake jumped out of his chair celebrating and ran up and hugged Bodie.
‘Everybody wanted Bodie, and I got him,’ Blake said. ‘Bodie may have well saved my season 22 blind audition.’
Robert ‘Kique’ Gomez, 18, from Miami, who recently graduated from high school and collects reptiles, was the first contestant during the two-hour episode.
He performed Sean Kingston’s song Beautiful Girls and Gwen and Blake both turned around.
‘We are going to fight,’ Gwen declared.
‘Man, I was blown away by your voice and just how accurate you are with your pitch,’ Blake said.
‘Your kind of voice is one of my favorite kinds of voices,’ Gwen said.
Kique chose Gwen.
‘I’m not going to say that I don’t care that Blake’s my husband, cause I care a lot, but I’m here to win,’ Gwen said in a confessional. ‘You are going down Shelton.’
Hillary Torchiana, 34, from West Chester, Pennsylvania went next. She talked about how she lost her cat and dog and all her belongings in a house fire before she took the stage. Hilary sang Easy On Me by Adele. Blake immediately turned around and he gained her for his team.
Hilary told John that she was getting married soon and their first dance was going to be to his song Never Break. John asked Hilary to bring her fiancé Joe on the stage and told them he was happy he would be a small part of their wedding.
Manu, 18, from Howell, New Jersey, revealed that she had previously been a contestant on The Voice Kids on Telemundo when she was 11 and on The Voice Kids in Colombia when she was 14.
She performed Lady Gaga’s song Shallow, but none of the judges turned around.
Sister duet partners Lindsay, 34, and Kasey, 30, both former Miss Marylands from La Plata, Maryland, went next. The two called their group the Marilynds and performed Lady A’s song What If I Never Get Over You.
John and Camila, 25, both turned around. The women told John they dreamed of singing with him.
‘Of course I want you to live your dream of you singing with John at the piano,’ Camila said. ‘But I was in a girl group for almost six years of my life. I know harmony and arrangement like the back of my hand.’
John said he used to sing with his siblings, too. He told them he had worked with country artists including Lady A.
In the end, they chose John.
‘You beat me this time,’ Camila said.
John turned for the next artist Solsong and also picked up Kara McKee, the 37-year-old daughter of Rhode Island Governor Daniel McKee, after she performed the song Woodstock.
Camila told Blake and Gwen that she couldn’t believe they had been together for seven years.
‘We are best friends,’ Gwen said.
Zach Newbould, 19, from Northborough, Massachusetts performed the King of Leon’s song Use Somebody. Camila and Gwen turned around at the same moment.
‘I love you,’ Gwen yelled. ‘Yes!’
‘Are you guys drunk or something? Why didn’t you turn around?’ Camila asked John and Blake.
‘Not yet,’ John said.
‘Actually, yes,’ Blake said. ‘Little bit, yes.’
‘I genuinely feel I can help you,’ Camila told Zach.
‘I was in a band for nine years before ”Just A Girl” even got on the radio,’ Gwen said. ‘I want to be your momager. I think I can help you.’
‘I’ve already lived my dream, now I just want to help you live your dream,’ she added.
‘You guys are making it hard right now,’ Zach said.
Zach chose Camila.
‘What the hell,’ Gwen said. ‘He could have had a momager.’
Lana Love, 30, from Glendale, California, performed Mandy Moore’s song Candy. John turned around and she joined his team.
Daysia Renee, 17, from Leavenworth, Kansas, talked about losing her mother when she was 12 after getting hit by a car. She said she used music to cope with the loss. Daysia performed Patsy Cline’s song Crazy. Gwen and Blake both turned around.
Blake told her she had an amazing voice, but was a little sad to see how excited she got when Gwen turned around.
‘I mean she’s gorgeous,’ Daysia said.
‘I love the quality of your voice,’ Gwen said. ‘I have a lot of experience outside of the show.’
‘After 22 seasons, I don’t have any experience outside of this show,’ Blake said. ‘My entire life. I wake up here and I go to sleep here.’
‘For my coach I am picking Miss Gwen,’ Daysia said.
‘Mom and Dad battled and Mommy won,’ Gwen said to the camera.
‘My wife beat me again,’ Blake said. ‘It sucks on the show but it’s okay for home.’
Conner Sweeny, 23, shared that he was originally from Nashville and performed Cole Swindell’s song Ain’t Worth The Whiskey, but none of the judges turned around.
‘I was really impressed by your verses,’ John said.
Ansley Burns, 15, from Easley, South Carolina, talked about how her mother once secretly filmed her singing a Carrie Underwood song and posted it. When Carrie tweeted about it, Ansley said she freaked out. She said that Blake was her idol and hoped he would turn around. Ansley performed The Righteous Brothers song Unchained Melody.
Blake turned around, followed by Gwen who found out that Blake blocked her.
‘I got her!’ Blake said. ‘I literally used my block on my wife. Ansley you are stuck with me.’
‘I’m so honored,’ Ansley said.
Manasseh Samone, 22, a preschool teacher from Dallas, performed Lauren Daigle’s song Rescue, but none of the judges turned.
‘You’re a really gifted singer,’ Camila said.
The Voice will return Tuesday on NBC.
