Aggie (played by Lorna Laidlaw) and the rest of the Bailey family will be overjoyed when Diana ‘Dee-Dee’ Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown) arrives home from America. However, could her sudden reappearance spark trouble for the Coronation Street family? As Dee-Dee tries her best to help her brother James Bailey (Nathan Graham), will the true reason behind her return be revealed?
In upcoming episodes, James opens up to Aggie about his worst fears about his football career.
He admits he’ll never be the player that he was before and his career is over.
Ed Bailey (Trevor Michael Georges) and Michael Bailey (Ryan Russell) urge James to think things through before making any decisions.
The Baileys are thrilled when Dee-Dee turns up and the lawyer wastes no time in helping her brother.
When James shows her the letter from County offering a final pay-off, she vows to get a better deal.
The solicitor calls up the club and demands a meeting immediately to discuss the offer.
Will Dee-Dee be able to get a better offer for her brother and will fans find out why she’s really in Weatherfield?
A theory suggests her arrival could lead to either James or Michael opening and revealing a secret in a surprise twist.
Speaking to Express.co.uk and other press, soap star Channique shared an insight into her character.
She said: “She’s a bit of me! Dee-Dee’s going to bring a lot of fun, a lot of chaos – but in a good way, hopefully!
“Dee-Dee is organised chaos, is how I describe her. She bursts into any room she’s in, she’s a big personality but she’s really hard-working. She’s a great lawyer, she knows what she’s doing.”
Coronation Street producer Iain MacLeod echoed Channique’s description.
He explained the soap wanted to take a different approach with the latest edition of the Bailey family.
“Whenever you introduce a new character, it’s the default setting to go, ‘And what is her dark secret that she’s concealing when she arrives?’” Iain said.
“Ordinarily, that serves you very well. But actually, with this character, we thought, ‘Well, I don’t know if I want her to have one.’”
“She’s so exuberant and just seems so bulletproof and impervious to the travails of modern life that she dusts herself down and gets on with it,” he continued.
“I didn’t want to discover that she’s got some terrible burden.
“Actually, it was really refreshing when we all came to that decision, which was, ‘Let’s not do that.’
“Instead it’s, ‘Oh yeah. She can just be incredibly joyous.'”
He added: “I’m really, really excited to see her crash land into that family.”
Although Dee-Dee may not be hiding a secret, her siblings could be.
Coronation Street fans will know a new arrival usually brings drama and her reappearance could inspire James or Michael to come clean about something they thought they could forget had happened.
Will Dee-Dee be able to settle into her new life on the cobbles without any complications?
Coronation Street airs on ITV on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm.
