Charlie Stayt stops the Shadow Health Secretary from making a 12-year-old comparison

Health Secretary Thérèse Coffey will today outline plans from the Conservative government to cut patients’ waiting times to see their GP to just two weeks as well as a number of other measures in order to ease the pressure on the NHS. BBC Breakfast’s Charlie Stayt, therefore, heard from Labour’s Shadow Health Secretary Wes Streeting for his Party’s verdict on the plans – and it’s safe to say the opposing MP wasn’t too impressed with the plans.

Stayt put to Streeting the fact that Coffey and the Conservative government are looking to limit GP wait times to just two weeks.

Streeting pulled no punches as he branded it a “disgrace” to present the plans as “good news”, before adding: “When Labour was in government, we guaranteed GP appointments within two days, within 48 hours.”

The BBC Breakfast then asked what exactly the problem was to suggest a two-week waiting time given it’d be an improvement on the current state of affairs, to which Streeting replied he’d have “more confidence” if Coffey had presented reports on dealing with the staffing crisis.

He then referred to the previous Labour government once more, adding: “We reduced waiting times from 18 months to just 18 weeks on average, the lowest waiting times in history.

“That led to the highest patient satisfaction in history,” he went on before slamming: “I think people are running out of patience and the government is running out of time.”

He added another putdown of the current regime by slamming: “I’m afraid after 12 years, expecting the Conservatives to deal with this is a bit like asking an arsonist to put out the fire they created – it’s not gonna happen!”

Stayt, however, was quick to pull Streeting up on his comments by pointing out the vast differences between the time Labour were last in power compared to now.

Hitting back at the Shadow Health Secretary’s remarks, Stayt pointed out: “I notice you mentioned Labour’s time in government several times already.

“I think even you would acknowledge there are certain factors now that did not apply then, including some of the issues we’ve been through in the past two years.

“It’s a very different chess set right now they’re dealing with.”

Stayt decided to quiz Streeting on how much Labour’s proposals would cost if they were in power and had to tackle the current NHS pressure.

But when he asked if Labour would need to spend more money than the Conservatives, Streeting failed to confirm or deny.

Instead, the pair ended up talking over one another until Streeting eventually said he’d be able to supply more clarity next week.

And this floundering didn’t go unnoticed by fans at home, who shared their thoughts on the interview.

Twitter user @Iaink85 fumed: “Hey @wesstreeting: how hard is it to say ‘yes, I think Labour would be spending more than the Tories are now, but also we would put a much bigger focus on primary care and social care so that hospitals can have their loads lifted’. Would that be making up policy? #BBCBreakfast.”

And @Lourowson77 similarly fumed: “Wes Streeting, says the usual things. Everything was wonderful under Labour. It is a wonder they have not been permanently in power, ain’t it, more of the Cloud Cuckoland they live in, because it is over a decade ago he thinks we don’t remember it.”

Cristoir Toibin echoed: “Will you invest more in #NHS @wesstreeting? Why did you not just say YES it is easy, awful look when you are not straightforward with us, just looks like the #Tories – #Labour need to be totally different from the #Cons #BBCBreakfast.”

While @BlanesChil shared their frustrations: “@wesstreeting Ah, ffs. Doing ok until on bbc breakfast until failure to say a simple ‘yes’ – Labour would spend more on the NHS than Tories are now. Ppl understand that’s needed. Say it, clearly.”

And @Scottishlass71 brutally slammed: “@BBCBreakfast omg @wesstreeting talking (s**t) as usual. Labour was last in power 12 years ago things have drastically changed across the world. To say what Labour did is not applicable. Where are all this extra staff coming from?” (sic)

Brittany Hockley flaunts her sensational physique on night out in Sydney

Ex-Bachelor star Brittany Hockley has left little to the imagination as she bared her midriff for a hen’s party in Potts Point.

The radiographer-turned-reality star, 35, showcased her flat stomach and toned limbs in the racy blue dress.

Brittany looked confident as she strolled along the inner city street chatting to a number of girlfriends.

The dress featured a split to the side which highlighted her toned thighs.

The Challenge star finished the look with a small bag she wore across her body and nude-hued sandals.

Brittany wore a matte makeup palette and wore her brunette tresses down in beachy loose waves.

She appeared to be in good spirts as she threw up the peace sign.

Elsewhere, she was joined by pal Laura Byrne, who opted for an upmarket, pocketed wrap dress.

Brittany revealed that she’s been left wondering if something is wrong with her, as her relationships continue to fall apart.

The radio star, 35, wrote in her new book, We Love Love, as published by Body and Soul on Saturday, that she’s had to consider hard truths.

‘When you make the same mistakes on repeat and attract the same sort of relationship over and over, you can feel like you’re the common denominator, asking, “what is wrong with me?”‘ she said.

‘Understanding the why behind your attachment style and unpacking who modelled relationships for you growing up can help you have self-compassion’.

The former Bachelor star, who split from tennis player Jordan Thompson earlier this year, recently told KIIS FM’s Will and Woody that she feels ‘very unloved’.

‘I feel very unlovable and like something must be wrong with me, like I’m the common denominator,’ she said.

‘I’ve had 10 years of horrific things happening to me – some public, some very private,’ she continued. ‘But I feel like I can’t find love or feel loved.’

Brittany confessed that she feels hopeless every time a relationship fails.

In February, Brittany revealed she had split from Jordan, 28, after a year of dating.

Rylan Clark recalls getting help from Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes during depression battle

Rylan Clark has revealed that he confided in close friends and showbiz ‘step-parents’ Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes during his battle with depression – which saw him hospitalised and attempt to take his own life.

Describing the moment he saw the married couple as a ‘wake-up call’, the presenter admitted that he had ‘never seen Eamonn that upset before’.

The TV star, 33, has detailed his heartbreaking time in his new memoir Ten: The Decade That Changed My Future – which will be released at the end of the month.

In extracts of the book obtained by The Sun, the presenter explained how he stayed with his mother, Linda, for three months – following a stay in a private health facility.

Following this, he returned to hospital for a week after taking a bad spell, which led to Linda secretly reaching out to Ruth and Eamonn.

Dubbing them two of his closest friends in the industry, Rylan wrote: ‘I remember how their faces looked when they saw me, seeing how badly ill I was, and then Eamonn became very upset. I’d never seen Eamonn get upset like that before, and that was like a wake-up call.

‘I remember thinking, “Do I look that ill? Am I that bad?” It was just awful. They stayed with me all that day.’

The star has previously admitted to Ruth and Eamonn being ‘frightened’ for him and ‘shocked’ at his fragile state.

In the book, he sadly revealed that he planned on taking his own life during a stay at a psychiatric hospital so that Linda wouldn’t find his body.

It was revealed earlier this week that the presenter felt he ‘couldn’t carry on anymore’ after his ex-husband Dan left him when Rylan told him he had cheated during the relationship.

Rylan revealed that he had been unfaithful to his now former partner ‘years ago’ but that once he came clean, Dan told him their relationship was over and moved out after six years together.

Describing the time after the break up Rylan said in the newly published extract that he became ‘seriously unwell’ and was unable to eat, sleep and talk’ and that he felt like he was ‘having a stroke or worse’.

He detailed how he ‘couldn’t bear’ to live in the house he had shared with Dan so he moved in with his mum, where he would sit for days in the front room without talking with the blinds closed.

The former Celebrity Big Brother housemate, who claims he hadn’t stopped working since his stint on 2012’s The X Factor, confessed he ‘needed’ a break.

He said: ‘It was hard but on reflection, yes, I needed to stop. Maybe it was an amalgamation of 10 years. I didn’t stop since the day I went on The X Factor.

‘Nothing stopped. I don’t regret stopping. I do feel if I try to carry on, maybe I could have dealt with things better from a personal point of view. I don’t regret that I stopped.’

If you have been affected by anything in this article and need support call the Samaritans on 116 123 or email jo@samaritans.org.

Ten: The Decade That Changed My Future by Rylan is out on the 29th of September in Hardback from Seven Dials.

John Farnham ‘deeply touched’ by Robbie Williams’ tribute at AFL grand final

John Farnham’s family have issued a statement on the singer’s behalf, after Robbie Williams paid tribute to him on stage during his pre-match performance at the MCG on Saturday.

The 73-year-old, who is recovering after cancer surgery, is ‘deeply touched’ the statement said, according to The Courier Mail.

‘We were delighted to see Robbie Williams dedicate his performance of You’re The Voice to John,’ the statement from John’s wife Jill and sons Rob and James read.

‘John was watching from hospital and was deeply touched by that very generous gesture. He thoroughly enjoyed Robbie’s performance too.’

The English pop star opened with his 1997 hit Let Me Entertain You, before launching into another crowd pleaser, Rock DJ, as the sold-out crowd got pumped up for the historic showdown between the Sydney Swans and Geelong Cats.

The most incredible moment of the performance was his rendition of the ballad Angels, which he dedicated to late cricket legend Shane Warne.

After this, he paid tribute to Farnham – who was recently diagnosed with oral cancer – with a stirring performance of his signature song You’re the Voice, which had the whole crowd singing along in unison.

‘I want everyone to sing along to this. The next song is the unofficial national anthem of Australia,’ he said, before adding: ‘Let’s all send our love to John and his family.’

Williams later posted on Facebook that the moment the crowd sang along with the anthem ‘got me emotional’.

Farnham’s family this week said he is ‘progressing well’ and has been moved from intensive care to a general hospital ward.

He required an operation by 26 surgeons over a marathon 12-hour operation to remove a cancerous growth from his mouth and part of his jaw in August.

Farnham is ‘unlikely’ to ever perform again – but an update from wife Jill and sons Rob and James confirmed the singer is on the road to recovery after being moved into a general room.

‘That in itself is terrific progress,’ they said in a statement.

‘This week John has been transferred into a rehabilitation facility. Each of these steps means things are moving in the right direction and for that we are enormously thankful.’

They also thanked his ‘many thousands’ of fans who created a website to support Farnham called weloveyoujohn.com.au.

He had only discovered he had the cancerous growth in his mouth after his wife insisted on taking him to the doctor for a check up.

‘The cancer tumour was located in his mouth and it has been successfully removed,’ she said after his operation.

‘There is still a long road of recovery and healing ahead of us, but we know John is up for that task.’

The Block’s Ryan and Rachel score a big win for living and dining room week

The Block’s Ryan and Rachel received two perfect tens from the judges to take out Living and Dining Room week on Sunday night.

The couple were delighted to win the challenge with Shaynna Blaze and Neale Whitaker saying they ‘loved’ the couple’s space.

‘Yes. They have done it,’ Shaynna Blazed yelled. ‘They have put home, personality and warmth into this place.’

‘Rachel and Ryan welcome to The Block,’ Neale added, triumphantly.

The judges were impressed with timber on the ceiling along with their incredible fireplace which was the centre of the room.

Neale and Shaynna were also very impressed with the large, stylish sofa with Neale saying the pair had done a ‘beautiful’ job.

‘I just want them to know I love it and they have done the best job,’ Shaynna said.

The couple managed to get a winning score of 29.5 out of 30, with them taking home the win from the rival teams.

Elsewhere, Omar and Oz presented another huge effort with an elegant room, only to be hugely penalised by Scott Cam.

The boys purchased a baby grand piano, paying $7,500 for it when it is worth a massive $36,000.

According to the rules on The Block, teams can only get a 50 per cent discount off the retail price.

The boys ended up breaking The Block rules due to getting such a heavily discounted product, meaning three points was deducted from them.

‘You can’t expect me to let that slide boys,’ Scott Cam said.

He said if the boys were to win he was going to ‘disqualify’ the boys for not doing the right thing.

Omar and Oz ended up being disappointed but the other teams were happy with the punishment.

The boys got a score of 9.5 from each of the judges making for a total score of 28.5/30.

The three-point deduction from Scott gave them an overall final score of 25.5.

Ankur and Sharon left the judges less-than-impressed with their room with the judges saying nothing came together for them.

‘There’s a lot to love here but they have to rethink the relationship between all of these elements,’ Neale said, clearly unhappy.

Shaynna went on to call the room the couple’s ‘re-do’ room straight away with her clearly disappointed with their efforts.

The judges went as far as to say it needed to be restyled before photographs were taken for the auction.

The couple gained low scores of six, six, and seven, giving them a final score of 19.

Tom and Sarah-Jane left the judges impressed with their offering this week with Shaynna saying she ‘loved’ the fireplace.

The judges didn’t like the small living room furniture and the TV layout was clunky.

The couple got 8.5, 8, and 9, giving them a final score of 25.5.

Lucky last was Dylan and Jenny who got critiqued that their room had no ‘wow factor’ by the judges.

‘This was not a sophisticated version of country style, more period features [is needed],’ Shaynna said.

The judges added that there was ‘too much going on’ and nothing really connected in the finished room.

The couple scored 7.5, 7, 7.5, giving them a final score of 22.

The Block continues Monday at 7.30pm on Channel Nine

Model Simone Holtznagel strips completely naked for VERY racy photos

Simone Holtznagel and Jono Castano are more loved-up than ever.

On Sunday, the smitten couple each shared photos from their recent holiday at Sierra Escape Mudgee, in rural NSW.

Feeling frisky, the images, which were posted to Instagram, show the pair stripping off for a soak in an outdoor tub.

Jono, 31, grinned for the camera as his sipped a glass of wine while bathing during a stunning sunset.

Simone kicked her leg in the air as she luxuriated in the al fresco tub with a glass of red wine, the idyllic surroundings including a breathtaking countryside vista.

The gorgeous 29-year-old model then cheekily posed completely nude before a roaring fire.

‘Can start a fire,’ she captioned the photo, which showed her totally unclothed form dangerously close to the crackling flames.

The couple gushed about one another in further captions, with Simone writing in hers: ‘We’ve been back in Sydney only a few hours and already missing this wonderful place.

‘We had the most romantic weekend, could not recommend this place enough. We will be back!’

Jono wrote: ‘The smile says it all… Thank you @sierraescape for an amazing weekend! @simoneholtznagel got to experience my wonderful cooking’.

Simone and Jono went public with their relationship in May when they were spotted dining in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

The couple confirmed their romance when they were seeing locking lips at a Mimi’s in Coogee.

Simone and Jono have been surprisingly tight-lipped about their romance aside from a handful of social media posts.

Their relationship comes after Jono’s split with wife Amy. The pair remain on good terms and still co-own Acero gym in Sydney.

Strictly’s Giovanni Pernice and Richie Anderson ‘haven’t clicked’ as tensions rise off camera

Strictly’s Giovanni Pernice and Richie Anderson ‘haven’t clicked’ since being paired together as tensions rise off camera, show sources claim.

They were announced as the BBC shows second all-male partnership and are one of two same-sex pairings on this years series.

Sourced told The Sun that professional dancer Giovanni is becoming frustrated with Richie not listening to him in rehearsals.

One insider said: ‘The pair haven’t clicked. Richie is so swept up by the whole experience that he is talking 100 words a minute, and it can be hard for Giovanni.

‘He has told pals that Richie talks instead of listening during training, and it is frustrating.’

But the source added that it was early days and they are still getting used to each other: ‘Giovanni thinks Richie has real potential in the competition.’

For the first time in the show’s history, there will be two same-sex couples performing in the same series, with Karen, who last year danced with Greg Wise, taking to the floor with comedian Jayde.

The fifteen couples have been working hard in the training room, with their debut performance set to air during the first Strictly live show on Saturday, with the judging panel scoring each dance out of 40.

The pairs will then deliver a second performance the following week when the public vote will open, before a results show on Sunday reveals which two pairs received the fewest votes and must compete in the dance off.

The judges will then decide which couple they would like to save, and the other pair will be eliminated.

The series opener also featured two incredible performances from the Strictly professionals, as well as the return of reigning champion Rose Ayling-Ellis, and a music performance from John Legend who performed his new single All She Wanna Do.

Joining Claudia and Giovanni on the sofa ahead of their comeback dance, Rose told how it was ‘lovely’ to be back on the show while expressing her shock that it had been a year since she took part.

She added that training for her return dance with Giovanni made her realise how much she ‘missed’ training with him, while the Italian hunk added that the few hours they danced together once again was ‘magical’.

Dusting off their paddles were returning judges Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood and Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke.

While viewers were no doubt sad not to see show favourites Aljaz Skorjanec and Oti Mabuse, who both quit Strictly Come Dancing earlier this year.

This series has also seen the introduction of four new professionals, European cup winner Vito Coppola, Chinese National Champion Carlos Gu, former Under 21 British National Champion Lauren Oakley and Latin dance champion Michelle Tsiakkas.

During Friday’s launch the four pros were officially introduced to viewers through a pre-filmed cinematic dance routine.
