Today show host Karl Stefanovic was left rather embarrassed after an elderly guest asked on Monday if he'd had a facelift.

The 46-year-old was put on the spot while interviewing Noela MacLeod, who was promoting the Country Women's Association's new book, Thrifty Household.

As Noela revealed that her favourite cleaning hack was using banana skins as boot polish, Allison Langdon asked her if she had any personal questions for Karl.

'I believe you had a very important question for the crew about Karl. What did you want to know?' Allison said, prompting the question.

Noela then said cheerfully: 'I wanted to know, has he had a facelift?'

The rather personal question prompted an eruption of laughter in the studio as Karl cheekily said: 'That's a bit rude... of course I have!'

'Because he looks so young!' Noela clarified, to which Karl replied: 'Oh, you're so sweet.'

Allison then pushed Noela a little further, asking whether she thought the father of four was 'handsome' or not.

'Well, I don't know... handsome is in the eye of the beholder,' she said, which prompted Ali to say she'd done a good job of 'dodging' the question.

'You're fantastic,' Karl added. 'We're going to get you on every week.'

While there's no suggestion Karl has had a facelift, there has been speculation he's undergone a hair transplant.

However, a source close to the journalist denied the rumours to Daily Mail Australia in April, saying: 'It's just completely untrue.

'He doesn't know where this has come from. The idea he spent $55,000 on hair plugs is absolutely ludicrous. If he paid $55,000 for that he'd want his money back.'

That same month, the same source also denied rumours Karl had dyed his hair black.

The hair plug rumour first started in 2017, when the Sydney Morning Herald reported that he'd undergone a transplant because he was feeling 'pressure' to look younger.

Griff Rhys Jones has spoken of his hatred towards increasingly politically correct comedy during an appearance on Steph's Packed Lunch this week.

The Welsh funnyman, 67, who is currently hosting a charity auction for East Anglia's Children's Hospices, discussed people feeling 'easily offended'.

He told Steph McGovern: 'Well I have to say there is quite a move to put some legalisation in to do something about that and I just hate it! NO, I'm not allowed to say I hate anything am I? [laughs].

However it appears that the movement hasn't put Griff off comedy for good, as he admitted he is plotting to 'squeeze' back into the industry after his auction.

The entertainer said: 'There has never been a better time for comedy, there is some fantastic comedy around, I just think this may be my opportunity when I've finished my auctioneering to squeeze back in there somewhere if somebody will have me!'

Griff also revealed that just short of seven hours since launching his charity auction campaign, in which he's auctioning a collection of celebrity memorabilia, he's already raised £25,000 for East Anglia's Children's Hospices.

Griff became a household name in the 1980s with Not The Nine O'Clock News and Alas Smith And Jones.

The celebrated comedian, writer, actor and presenter began his comedy career at Cambridge University, where he was a member of the famous Footlights drama club.

In December last year he received an OBE at a ceremony in Buckingham Palace for his services to charity and entertainment.

He said the investiture ceremony on Thursday was 'rather an amazing thing' and that he had enjoyed meeting others who were also receiving honours.

He said: 'I felt a little bit humbled by the people all around.

'I know it is an honour as it is called an honour, but it is also an honour to get one.'

At the time he was calling for a greater focus on improving the standard of living in towns and cities outside London.

Steph's Packed Lunch airs weekdays at 12.30pm on Channel 4
